Extractors

Extraction with DME or butane gas is one of the most popular and easiest methods of oil production. For this method we offer you in this category the appropriate glass or metal extractors in different sizes and designs, as well as the Dimethyl ether solvent from Dexso. ATTENTION: Please read up on the subject before using this method, as extraction with solvents is not without danger and should only be carried out with great care.

Instructions - Making BHO with butane gas or solvent

Throughout this guide, you will find all the steps and tools necessary to make your own BHO extract. Many dab lovers swear by BHO for its high potency and comparatively low toxicity, as the inhaled product is not smoke but vapour.

Although the process of extraction with gas is very simple, it must be mentioned again here how dangerous this procedure can be. Especially when extracting with gas, you should always stay in a very well ventilated room, or even better outdoors, as the gas evaporates much faster here.

You need these tools for the procedure

As mentioned before, extraction with gas or solvent is not magic. Provided you work with high-quality equipment. Since there are many videos on the internet about BHO production, in which one extracts with self-made devices, we strongly advise against working with self-made constructions. For this purpose, you will find all the necessary utensils in appropriate quality in our shop:

  • Extractor (from Ehle, D-Lux or Black Leaf)
  • Extraction gas (Dexso or butane gas)
  • Plant material
  • Grinder for shredding the plant material
  • A glass bowl for the water bath
  • Parchment paper or silicone container for storage
  • Dabber

Process of BHO production

With the right utensils, the production can be carried out relatively quickly, without any special prior knowledge. To ensure that this can be done as safely as possible, it is essential to follow the instructions below:

    1. The first and most important step is to go into a room that has at least two windows and open both during the process. This creates a draught that prevents the gas from accumulating in the room. Optimally, the extraction can also be done outdoors to further minimise the risk.
    2. Before starting the extraction, the plant material must be crushed with the grinder to optimise the BHO yield. When choosing the extractor, make sure that the quantity used matches the size of the extractor. You can find the gram quantities in the description of our extractors.
    3. Now the plant material is filled into the previously selected extraction tube. Here it is important to note that it should be evenly distributed and not too densely stuffed. To get the most out of the flowers, it is recommended that the herb sits rather loosely in the tube.
    4. Now the screw cap of the extractor can be screwed tight at the lower end. Then the nozzle of the gas container is attached to the small hole at the upper end and pressed in. Thus, the gas flows through the tube and releases the desired extract from the plant. It is important that the extractor with the screw cap points downwards so that the BHO can drip into a small glass bowl thanks to gravity.
    5. When the extraction process is finished and no more BHO drips out of the filter of the extractor, you have already done most of the work. Now the small glass container with the just extracted content has to be put into a pot with boiling water. This has the effect of evaporating the remaining residues of the gas in the extract and purifying it. As soon as no more bubbles can be observed in the BHO, the purification process is complete and the extract can be scraped off with a dabber and scraped off in a silicone container.

Dexso solvent or butane gas

Butane gas was the first choice for BHO extraction for a long time. But for some years now, an alternative has been established, namely DME - dimethyl ether, also known under the brand name of DME. Dexso known under the brand name.

The decisive advantage of DME is the reduced risk of explosion. Although it is also a combustible gas, it is comparatively much less explosive than butane gas. An additional added value lies in the clorophyll solubility of dimethyl ether. This means that more terpenes are washed out during extraction, which leads to a better result in terms of taste than the process with butane gas.

We clearly recommend using dimethyl ether from Dexso, if only because of the reduced risk of explosion.
