Length & width
First of all, there is no standard size for longpapers, neither in length nor in width. The different manufacturers produce their papers with different lengths and widths. In principle, however, papers are called long papers if they have a length of more than 78mm. The width for slim versions is usually limited to 44 - 48mm, and for standard longpapers to 54 - 58mm. A smaller width is especially interesting for pure smokers, whereas the wider papers are suitable for additional filling material such as tobacco or nicotine-free herbal mixtures.
Weight & Thickness / Strength
The thickness of the king size paper is differentiated with the following terms:
- Slim
- Extra fine
- Ultra fine
- Extra slim
- Ultra slim.
When it comes to weight, g/m² is used as the designation. But what are the benefits of thinner paper? It favours better burning behaviour. It burns more slowly and evenly when you pull on it. So we can conclude that the thinner the paper, the slower the burning. However, thicker longpapers do not crease as quickly when you twist them and they also do not collapse as easily. In the end, however, it depends on what thickness you prefer for your papers.
Material & texture
Just like the Regular Size Papers, the following materials are available:
- Cellulose
- Flax
- Rice
- Hemp
- Maize
- Sugar cane.
There are also longpapers for the environmentally conscious that are unbleached and chlorine-free.
Rubber coating
In most cases, the adhesive surfaces of the King Size Papers are made of gum arabic. Gum arabic is nothing other than the sap of the acacia tree. With very thin long papers, there is even the possibility that they have no gum. The reason for this is that they are self-adhesive as soon as they are moistened. However, you have to use more moisture than with a normal rubber coating. Very important - always look for natural gumming!
