Classic smoking instrument

Wooden pipes are the classics among smoking devices. For centuries, pipes have been used to smoke tobacco and herbs. The first raw materials from which pipes were made were of course natural resources such as wood, clay and soapstone. Wood, unlike the latter two materials, is much harder. Thus, pipes made of wood are significantly more robust, more stable and less fragile than pipe models made of clay or soapstone. As a result, wooden pipes have a high durability and therefore offer many hours of shared enjoyment.

Taste development

This longevity also makes smoking over time something very special, because the wood changes with every smoking session. The flavours and traces of the differently smoked tobaccos and herbs are absorbed by the wood. For this reason, you should not clean your wooden pipe too vigorously. The true pleasure of smoking is experienced with a well-smoked wooden pipe and its own personal taste.

Wood types

Wooden pipes can be made of the following woods, for example: Walnut, olive, rosewood, ebony, pearwood and briar. The latter type of wood has been increasingly used in the manufacture of wooden pipes since the end of the 19th century. The reason for this is that briar pipes do not heat up so much when smoked. The smoker can therefore easily touch and hold the pipe bowl without any burns. Another advantage is that the embers of briar pipes last longer than those of other types of wood. Wooden pipes made of briar therefore score points with their fire resistance and heat resistance.
