Activated carbon filters originally came from the well-known tobacco pipes. There, they were used as insert filters between the mouthpiece and the pipe bowl. Over time, however, activated carbon filters were also discovered for rolling your own cigarettes, and they have enjoyed enormous popularity ever since. Since they originate from pipes, they are naturally larger than other screw-in filters. As a result, cigarettes and other rolling devices turn out a bit larger than usual. Activated carbon has a larger surface area than other filter materials, which means it filters out more contaminants such as condensate and tar. Additionally, the activated carbon ensures that only the active ingredients and aroma pass through. As a result, you experience more flavor and purity when smoking. Otherwise, your activated carbon filter could start burning or smoking—not a particularly pleasant or efficient idea.
