What types of grinder are there? - From plastic grinders to high-end ceramic grinders

Today we want to dedicate ourselves to one of our favourite topics: The grinder, or herb mill, which is supposed to grind our herbs as perfectly as possible.

THE RIGHT MATERIAL FOR THE RIGHT HERB

You probably already know some types, such as plastic grinders as promotional gifts, metal grinders or stylish wooden grinders. Among the high-grade variants, there are also aluminium or even ceramic grinders. The latter have the advantage of being less maintenance-intensive and hardly sticking. There are also special herb grinders that can grind even moister herbs instead of clumping. Choosing the right grinder can really save you a lot of trouble in the long run. Especially if you want to grind large quantities. First of all, you should decide on a certain size.

the right size and the bubble filter

At home, you may prefer larger grinders that are equipped with several levels to filter additional pollen. This gives you a fine additional product for later. With one or more pollen filters, the fine dust falls into the pollen chamber where it is collected. You can use this for toppings or for hash pressing. Furthermore, there are big differences in the size of the herb. It is not always the same size or small. This can make a significant difference if it is to be vaporised in a vaporiser, for example. Otherwise, it is up to you whether you want it fine or coarse. The more teeth and the smaller the holes, the finer your herb will be. There are smaller grinders for on the go. Some are even odourless.

PLASTIC GRINDER

The plastic grinder is often found because it is cheap and can be moulded into many shapes. Often sent as a promotional gift, these grinders are the cheapest form. Although this may still pass as a festival utensil, it is not built to last forever and shows enormous signs of wear after only a short time. We do not recommend these models for long-term use with high-quality herbs. Should you not be able to resist, there's a on Amazon a large selection.

METAL GRINDER

Metal grinders are now often produced very cheaply with injection moulding. The selection ranges from normal 2-piece to 4 or 5-piece to window crushers. These are not always of top quality, so you should make sure that they have not been copied too cheaply or to a high standard. Look for high quality and irregularities. In addition to the large selection of models in this segment, there are also special features such as viewing windows, cranks, integrated storage boxes, holders and more. This is the most affordable entry into a high-quality chopping experience!

WOOD GRINDER

Now we come to the most artistic herb grinders you can get your hands on! Wooden grinders are available with metal teeth or only with wooden teeth. Here you should pay attention to which herb you prefer to grind and how dry it is. This may not be possible with blunt wooden or round metal teeth. The wooden models are usually hand-carved or embellished with other amazing decorations. These grinders should not be missing from any stylish dinner jacket stash!

ALUMINIUM GRINDER

The aluminium grinder is characterised by high-quality workmanship and comes anodised in very beautiful colour combinations on the market. In addition to the perfectly milled shape of the grinders, they are also very durable. If you don't lose it, you take it with you to the grave. There are rumours that aluminium grinders are harmful to health. However, this is not true and could not be confirmed by us.

CERAMIC GRINDER

Welcome to the Champions League of grinders! With a ceramic grinder you have found a companion for life. This type of grinder is always of the highest quality and workmanship. You have to dig a little deeper into your wallet, but it's worth it. The ceramic coating fills every tiny crack on the aluminium surface. This ensures extremely low friction and at the same time protects against sticking and clogging. It is also responsible for the fact that you almost never have to clean your ceramic grinder. If you do, you can simply rinse it with warm water and clean it with a soft cloth and brush.

ELECTRIC GRINDER

With this type of grinder, you book yourself personal convenience. Simply press the button and off you go. It is best to press the button intermittently, as this will give you the best results. In addition, this method saves battery and blades. It is logical that you cannot easily chop the largest and most compact herbs with electric grinders. However, you can finely chop loose to medium herbs with just a few pushes of the button.
