Instructions - Making BHO with an extractor

In this guide, you will find all the steps and tools needed to make your own BHO extract. Many dab enthusiasts swear by BHO because of its high potency and relatively low harmfulness, as the inhaled product is not smoke but vapor.

ATTENTION! Although the process of gas extraction is very simple, it must be mentioned again how dangerous this procedure can be. Especially when extracting with gas, you should always stay in a very well-ventilated room, or better yet, outside, as the gas evaporates much more quickly here.

You will need these tools for the procedure

As mentioned before, extraction with gas or solvent is not magic. Provided you work with high-quality equipment. Since there are numerous videos on the Internet about BHO production in which extraction is done using homemade devices, we strongly advise against working with your own constructions. Instead, you can find all the necessary utensils in the appropriate quality in our shop:

• extractor (from Ehle, D-Lux or Black Leaf)
• extraction gas (dexso or butane gas)
• Plant material
• Grinder for crushing the plant material
• A glass bowl for the water bath
• Parchment paper or silicone container for storage
• Dabber

Process of BHO production with extractor

With the right utensils, the production can be carried out relatively quickly, without any special prior knowledge. To ensure that this is done as safely as possible, be sure to follow the instructions below:

1. 1. The first and most important step is to go into a room that has at least two windows and open both during the process. This creates a draft that prevents the gas from building up in the room. Ideally, the extraction can also be carried out outdoors to further minimize the risk.
   2. Before starting the extraction, the plant material must be ground with the grinder to optimize the BHO yield. When choosing the extractor, special attention should be paid to ensuring that the amount used matches its size. You can find the gram filling quantities in the description of our extractors.
   3. Now the plant material is filled into the previously selected extraction tube. It is important to ensure that it is evenly distributed and not packed too tightly. In order to get the most out of the flowers, it is recommended that the herb sits rather loosely in the tube.
   4. Now the screw cap of the extractor can be screwed tight at the bottom end. Then the nozzle of the gas container is placed on the small hole at the top end and pushed in. This causes the gas to flow through the tube and release the coveted extract from the plant. It is important that the extractor is facing downwards with the screw cap so that the BHO can drip into a small glass bowl thanks to gravity.
   5. When the extraction process is complete and no more BHO is dripping out of the extractor's filter, the majority of the work is already done. Now the small glass container with the contents that have just been extracted must be placed in a pot of boiling water. This causes the remaining gas in the extract to evaporate and clean it. As soon as no more bubbles are observed in the BHO, the cleaning process is complete and the extract can be scraped off with a dabber and placed in a silicone container.

Dexso solvent or butane gas

Butane gas was the first choice for BHO extraction for a long time. However, in recent years an alternative has been established, namely DME - dimethyl ether, also known under the brand name Dexso famous.

The key advantage of DME is the reduced risk of explosion. Although it is also a flammable gas, it is comparatively much less explosive than butane gas. An additional benefit is the chlorophyll solubility of dimethyl ether. This means that more terpenes are washed out during extraction, which leads to a better taste than the process with butane gas.

We clearly recommend using Dexso dimethyl ether, if only because of the reduced risk of explosion.
