How does a dabbing rig work?
With a dab rig, it is possible to follow the growing trend of dabbing. If you are not familiar with dabbing, it is the vaporisation of previously extracted plant material or concentrates. This form of smoking, if done correctly, is particularly gentle and much less harmful than the normal smoking process with a joint or bong.
All you need for dabbing
Before you can start dabbing, it is very important to work with the right tools. Since you are working with high temperatures, it is extremely important that the dab rig or nail you choose is of the highest quality. Dab Nail is of the highest quality. Here is a list of all the necessary utensils.
- Dab Rig - There are two options here. You can either buy a Dab Rig. These often already have a quartz or titanium nail built in. The second option is to upgrade an already purchased bong with a banger or nail and thus convert it into a dab rig. This will be discussed in more detail below.
- Bunsen burner or E-Nail - As a rule, a normal burner is perfectly adequate. The control of the temperature is completely in your hands and with enough experience you will easily find the perfect method to adjust your dab temperature to your needs.

- Dab material - Can be made yourself or purchased from your favourite CBD dealer. There is now a wide range of dab products from the CBD sector, leaving nothing to be desired.
CAUTION! Especially when choosing a nail, it is of utmost priority to choose a high-quality product. As splintering can occur with low-quality products. And we can assure you that it is a very tricky situation when a ceramic nail shatters at around 300 - 400 degrees and lands on the couch or carpet.
The procedure
This instruction describes dabbing with the help of a Bunsen burner. In addition to this method, there is also the possibility of dabbing with an e-nail or a wax pen. Wax Pen. However, these alternative methods are dealt with in a separate article. Here is the procedure for dabbing with a dab rig:
- When you want to start dabbing, all the accessories should already be within reach. First, heat the glass or titanium nail with the burner. Hold it steady and keep it on until the nail has turned red.
- Now wait until the nail cools down to the optimal temperature. If the nail is made of titanium, about 10 - 20 seconds is sufficient. For quartz or ceramic nails, the optimal waiting time is about 40 - 50 seconds. You can of course wait even longer, because the cooler the nail is, the more pleasant the dabbing experience will be for your lungs.
- Now the dabber is used. Ideally, the dabber should already be loaded with the extract in order to avoid sweating during the cooling phase of the nail when the concentrate is scratched on. When the right period of time has passed, depending on the nail, the Dabber can be guided to the socket of the nail. You don't even have to hold the dabber directly to the nail, because you will see that if it hovers just above it, the dab will melt all by itself and run into the pan.
- (Optional) If you have a Carb Cap, it can be placed on the pan of the nail after stripping the concentrate to seal it and waste as little of the valuable extract as possible.
- Inhale! Breathe in evenly and you will see that the longer you let the nail cool down, the smoother and more pleasant your dab experience will be.
Different types of dab rigs
Basically, there are two different forms of dab rigs. On the one hand, there is the original dab rig, which is specifically designed for this purpose and can usually be bought with an integrated quartz nail. Usually it is rather compact in shape and can be compared in size to a Bubbler in size.
Then there is the possibility of converting a normal bong into a dab rig by equipping it with a dabbing banger or a titanium nail. This type of rig is becoming increasingly popular, as many newcomers to dab already have a bong at home and only need a suitable banger or nail to convert it accordingly. The biggest advantage of this method is that it is less expensive and there is one less piece sitting around at home.
