Dab Pens the noble alternative to the vaporizer
In order to vaporise herbal extracts or concentrates, dab rigs were the only viable alternative until some time ago. But about 10 years ago, the first dab pen for BHO vaporisation came on the market. Since then, a lot of time has passed and in the meantime, wax pens are not only an equivalent alternative to dab rigs, but are also ahead of them in certain areas.
Dab Pens are characterised above all by their ease of use. Just pour the extract into the atomiser and you're ready to go. The advantage of the wax pen is not only its simplicity, but also its mobility and inconspicuousness, as it looks very similar to e-cigarettes.
In the meantime, the technology of the Dab Pens has changed quite a bit. Not only the battery performance has been increased a lot, but also the atomisers are now largely equipped with variable voltage.
Different types of wax pens
Do you prefer concentrates or are you more the oil type? Whatever you choose, for each type of extract there are vaporizers that are suitable for a specific type of dab material. Before you make a rash decision and get a vaporizer that is not suitable for your needs, we briefly explain the different types of dab pens.
- Dab Pens with tank: With this type of vaporizer, the tank, which is usually made of glass, can be filled with different types of oils. The great advantage of these pens is that you can fill your pen with your own concentrates.
- Pre-filled cartridges: These dab pens are delivered with the cartridges already filled with dab material. These are very simple in design. When a cartridge is vaped empty, it is normally discarded and replaced by an already filled cartridge. This type of dabbing pen is characterised by the particular simplicity of use.
- Dabbing pens with heating coil: These handy vapes do not have a tank. Instead, they consist of a chamber and a heating coil, which is used to vaporise wax-like concentrates.
How do Dab Pens work exactly?
Dab Pens basically work just like e-cigarettes. The standard pen usually consists of three main parts:
- Battery: The rechargeable batteries are not batteries, but batteries with variable voltage. This means that it is possible for the user to increase or decrease the voltage settings by pressing a button. As a rule, this function is operated via various press combinations of the power button or an extra regulator.
- Atomizers: Atomizers are divided into wicked, wickless and ceramic coils.
- Wicked: Wicked atomizers are normal wick atomizers and are more suitable for more liquid extracts.
- Wickless: Wickless pens are dab pens without a wick. They are better suited for thicker concentrates and deliver a better flavour than the wickless atomisers.
- Ceramic: This type of atomiser is technically at the cutting edge of development. It delivers the best taste because the concentrate does not come into contact with the heating coil and therefore burns more slowly, delivering the best taste.
- Mouthpiece: The mouthpiece is the last instance before inhaling. Make sure that it is cleaned after a few units of dabbing. Otherwise, it may become clogged with extract residues over time or at least the flow rate may be reduced.

Dr Dabber
The Dr. Dabber 'Ghost is a dabbing pen that has been equipped with a special atomizer to create a smaller vapour output and thus improve battery life. The built-in titanium coil provides improved flavour and even vaporisation of the dab material. It is exclusively suitable for concentrates.
Smono
The Smono Dab is equipped with two different attachments. These are a quartz chamber and the nectar collector with which the dabs can be vaporised directly from the pen without having to fill it first. Silicone box without having to fill the pen first. Besides the noble designed housing with smooth metal finish, the Smono Dab includes a 1.85 volt preheating function, which can be activated by pressing the on/off switch twice. This dab pen is also only suitable for concentrates.
