18,8 mm – the cut for large bongs

For larger glass bongs, percolator bongs, and many brand-name bongs, 18,8 mm is the standard. A bowl of this size usually holds slightly more than a 14,5 mm bowl and sits securely in the downstem. You can see if your bong has an 18,8 mm joint by looking at the downstem or in the product description.

Glass, metal or sieve head

How much can fit in the head?

The size of the bowl determines how much material it holds. A large bowl is practical when smoking with others. A smaller bowl is often more enjoyable when smoking alone because the material stays fresh and doesn't smolder between puffs. Many smokers therefore have two bowls of different sizes. If you want to use a smaller bowl on your 18,8 mm bong, you can do so with a chillum or an 18,8 mm to 14,5 mm adapter.

Aluminium as an alternative
