The story begins in the late 1980s in New York City. The founder's friends and he himself were big LL Cool J Fans. In one of his songs, LL Cool J mentioned that he often hangs out on Farmers Boulevard in Queens. So the group drove there and asked pedestrians if they knew where LL Cool J usually hangs out. They spent the entire day looking for him. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. But the search did bring about one funny thing. Afterward, the founder's friends came up with a new nickname for him: Cool Jay.

A decade later, when the founder of Juicy Jay's needed to come up with a brand name for his new menthol rolling papers, he named them after his old nickname, Cool Jay's. With additional flavors, the now-famous brand name Juicy Jay's evolved.
